چکیده

Methods Patients were selected retrospectively from the database at NMH according to IRB-approved protocols. We identified and selected 217 patients who had a diagnosis of BAV and underwent CMR angiography between 2007 and 2010. For each subject, age, gender, functional state of the BAV, pattern of fusion, aortic root diameter, mid ascending aortic diameter, proximal and distal aortic arch diameter, and primary indication at the time of the MRA were extracted from reports.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva

Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

Correlation between bicuspid aortic valve fusion phenotype and aortic arch morphology using MRI

The purpose of this study is to use magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) to evaluate the relationship between different patterns of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) fusion and aortic arch morphologies, as characterized by the carotid-subclavian artery (CSA) index of the aortic diameter at the left subclavian artery to the distance between the left carotid artery and the left subclavian artery and ao...

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: Unresolved Issues and Role of Imaging Specialists

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart disease with marked heterogeneity in many aspects. Fusion patterns of the aortic cusp are quite variable with different type and severity of valvular dysfunction. Moreover, non-valvular cardiovascular abnormalities are associated with BAV. Among them, aortic aneurysm/dissection is the most serious clinical condition with variable p...

Quantification of aortic valve regurgitation by phase-contrast magnetic resonance in patients with bicuspid aortic valve: where to measure the flow?

Background Phase-contrast magnetic resonance (PC-MR) is used to quantify the aortic regurgitation (AR) by measuring the forward and backward flow in the ascending aorta (AAo), thereby quantifying the regurgitant fraction. Patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) have an eccentric systolic aortic flow jet, causing an abnormal flow in the AAo. Therefore, we hypothesized that the flow measurement...
